A lot of writers and bloggers around the world are preoccupied lately with analyzing the reasons of the universal financial collapse. Many accused the Capitalist system, which is globally adapted, as the cause, suggesting some socialism (humanitarian) adoption or a mixture between the two. Which sounds logical to me. Yet, this also will fail so long that greed is a propensity in humans.
I am a person who believes in evolution, either physical or mental. And through this lens I perceive that what we have reached today with our governing policies, as humans, were nothing but the accumulated knowledge and experiences of our ancestors. Like any computer system, political and financial systems have to go through the testing period that is monitored or adjusted with time. And periods of maintenance and development with new developments in events and situations. The collapse of the American financial market, does not indicate the failure of the Capitalist system, it only suggests that there should be more provisions to add to the system, like more regulations and laws. Yet, even that would not guarantee its success without the individual effort to make it work. Can the company have an analytical annual report when the data entry fails to enter his data? It’s the complicated balance of satisfying self and public welfare on the same ground when humans realize that they are both dangerously interconnected.
There is no set of procedures or systems in the world that can control greed, whether this system was man-made or (permissibly) divine, it’s human behavior that makes systems work, not vise versa.
Greed is not always evil, a little bit of it is needed for survival purposes, yet there is no limit to greed, the more we have, the more we feel in need. Also the complications of our time forced accessories to become necessities. Not too long ago, when my kids were still teenagers, for example, mobiles were accessories I believed they didn’t need, today it’s a necessity even for younger kids according to some families. Same with all other appliances, can you imagine living without a microwave today (or a computer)? Back in the eighties we considered it a luxury! And still, some people around the world don’t even know what it is. I am not suggesting that each one of us should eventually become an altruistic and give up all the abundance that life has provided us with, what I am suggesting is a bit of global awareness to reach this balance.
Greed is not something that we humans should be blamed for or ashamed of, but it is something that we should be blamed for not being able to control. Like anger and temperament, greed needs internal management.
The only way to control greed is by building or raising public awareness of the welfare of the public (in its broader spectrum). For example; when fusel fuel, which is the main source of energy around the glob, shoots high in price, the oil-rich countries can provide cheap gas to their citizens. But on the other hand, prices of other consumer goods will rise directly around the world because most of them depend mainly on this type of fuel to produce, which will eventually affect the imported goods for oil-rich citizens. And in general, spreading poverty to most and wealth to few. And this few is usually the politicians.
Some might say that this equation is hard to balance because this trait is human. Allow me to differ with those, if we look back in history; it is evident that humans are gaining more moral and ethical grounds with time. In other words; they are becoming more aware of the needs of the communities than they were several centuries ago. What seemed to be an acceptable act in societies a century back, is not accepted today, in the general sense. Take dueling for example; in some point in history it was considered an honor for the ones who practiced it, while nowadays it is considered murder. This type of the evolution of awareness is what I am talking about. The inner feeling of disgust to a certain act that make it wither, or at least, shrink with time.
I do realize that even with lesser greed in the world, twenty percent of the total could still make eighty percent of the total damage (rule of thumb), and also that greed will never go away completely, therefore we have to live with it and build a regulatory system that can lessen its negative consequences. But “the way we look at the problem is the problem” as was mentioned by Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People”. Individual adjustment is mostly what we need, especially at times of crises, with some sense of global awareness or the welfare of humans in general.
” Every problem has a gift for you in its hands.” is a famous quote by Richard Bach. To me it means that if we look at our problems as opportunities, we will all eventually succeed.
We can build systems collectively, but we can also demolish them individually. And it’s time that we have reached this awareness that our individual acts are interconnected, and therefore it is our responsibility to adjust our greediness individually, starting at home.
It is time to think of ourselves in different perspective, at least to survive, and leave some of the wealth and the abundance we enjoy today for the next generation. It’s time to share.

انشغل الكثير من الكتاب و المدونون في الاونه الاخيره باسباب انهيار النظام المالي العالمي. فذهب البعض منهم الي اتهام نظام الراسماليه، و الذي تم تبنيه علي مستوي العالم، بآنه السبب الرئيسي، و يرون ان تبني القليل من النظام الاشتراكي (الانساني) او الخلط ما بين الاثنين هو الحل، و هذا يبدو منطقيا بالنسبه لي، و لكني اشك في نجاح اي نظام طالما كان الطمع و الجشع فطره في الانسان٠
انا انسانه اؤمن بنظريه التطور، سواء كان هذا التطور فيزيائي او فكري. و من خلال هذا المنظور فآن نظرتي للنظم التي تحكمنا كبشر ما هي الا نتاج علوم و تجارب متراكمه لاجدادنا. و مثل اي نظام آلي، فالنظم الماليه و السياسيه لابد لها من فتره الاختبار، و فتره الصيانه و التطوير مع الوقت و المستجدات و المستحدثات. فآنهيار النظام المالي في امريكا، لا يعني بالضروره ان النظام الراسمالي فاسد، كل ما في الموضوع ان النظام الراسمالي يحتاج الي بعض التدبير و التصحيح في مساره، مثل آضافه بعض القوانين و الفرمانات مثلا. و لا يوجد ضمانه حتي مع التعديلات ما لم يعمل الفرد و بصوره انفراديه علي نجاح النظام٠
أنها المعادله الصعبه ما بين ارضاء النوازع الذاتيه و الاحساس بمصلحه الجماعه علي نفس الارضيه عندما يعي البشر ان العاملين مرتبطين ارتباطا خطيرا٠
لا يوجد نظام و لا حتي مجموعه من اجراءات معينه بآمكانها ان تسيطر علي الجشع البشري، سواء كان هذا النظام بشري او (جوازا) الهي، ان التصرفات البشريه هي التي تصنع النظام و ليس العكس٠
و الجشع ليس دائما صفه ذميمه، فنحن بحاجه الي بعض الطمع لاغراض البقاء، و لكن الشجع البشري ليس له حدود. فكلما ملكنا من اشياء كلما وجدنا انفسنا بحاجه الي اكثر. و كذلك هنالك تعقيدات العصر الحديث و التي جعلت الكماليات ضروريات، فلوقت قريب نسبيا، عندما كانوا آبنائي في سن المراهقه، علي سبيل المثال، لم اكن اري حاجه في اقتنائهم التلفون النقال، بينما اصبح النقال اليوم حاجه حتي لاطفال ما دون سن المراهقه لبعض العائلات٠
و نفس الشيء بالنسبه لبقيه التجهزات، فهل من الممكن ان نتصور الحياه من غير مايكروويف (او كمبيوتر)؟ هذا ما كنا نعده في الثمانينات ككماليه، مع انه حتي في يومنا هذا فهنالك بشر في العالم لا يعرفونه ، و لا يقصد بطرحي هذا ايثار النفس لغرض المصلحه العامه، ما انشده في الواقع هو بعض الوعي للوصول الي هذا التوازن٠
و الطمع ليس بالشيء الذي يلام عليه الفرد او يستدعي الخجل، و لكنه يكون كذلك اذا فقدنا السيطره عليه٠ و مثله مثل الغضب و الاعصاب يحتاج الي اداره ذاتيه٠
و السبيل الوحيد للتحكم في الطمع هو بناء او رفع مستوي الوعي الفردي بمصلحه الجماعه (بمنظورها العام)، و معرفه آليه الترابط بين المصلحه الخاصه و المصلحه العامه. فمثلا عندما ترتفع اسعار البترول و الذي هو عصب الطاقه في العالم اليوم، فالدول الغنيه بالنفط تضمن لشعبها الحصول علي هذه الطاقه بسعر رخيص، و لكن بالمقابل ترتفع اسعار المواد الاستهلاكيه و الغذائيه في العالم، فالعالم يعتمد اليوم علي طاقه النفط بصوره رئيسيه في تصنيع منتجاته . و لن تنجي هذه الدول النفطيه من الزياده في الاسعار. كما ان هذه العمليه تكون احدي نتاجها التسبب في انتشار الفقر للاكثريه و الثراء للآقليه، و عاده ما تكون هذه الاقليه هم السياسيون٠
آعلم مسبقا انه حتي مع زياده الوعي الشعبي فالطمع البشري لا يمكن التغلب عليه بصوره كليه. و كذلك اعلم ان عشرون في المائه من المجموع هم في العاده المسببون في ثمانين بالمئه من ازمات الجماعه، و لذا فعلينا التعايش مع الجشع و تشريع القوانين للحد من آثاره السلبيه. و لكن ” الطريقه التي ننظر بها الي المشكله، هي (في الواقع) المشكله” كما ذكر ستفن كوفي في كتابه “العادات السبعه (لخلق) اشخاص منتجين (ترجمه غير حرفيه)”. فالموازنات الذاتيه هي ما نحتاج اليها، و خصوصا في فتره الازمات، مع بعض الاحساس بالوعي الشمولي او مصلحه البشريه بصوره عامه
قد يقول قائل ان هذه المعادله صعبه التنفيذ لآنها النفس البشريه التي جبلت علي ذلك، و إسمحوا لي آن آختلف مع هؤلاء، فلو نظرنا الي التاريخ فسوف نجد آن هنالك الكثير من الامور و المفاهيم التي تغيرت مع الزمن و الظروف، فالناس اليوم، بنظري، آكتسبت اخلاقيات اكثر مع الزمن، فآصبحوا آكثر وعيا لإحتياجات الجماعه مما كانوا عليه في القرون الماضيه. فما كان يعتبر من الامور المقبوله في الماضي، يعتبر غير مقبول اليوم. خذ علي سبيل المثال المبارزه، ففي فتره معينه من التاريخ كانت تعتبر شرف (نسبه لمن كان يمارسها)، اما اليوم فهي تعتبر جريمه قتل ، و هذه النوعيه من التطور في الوعي هو ما اتطرق اليه في موضوعي هذا و هو الاحساس الذاتي بالإشمئزاز من امور جبلنا عليها بدون تفكير، مما جعل هذه الامور ترهل او علي الاقل تضمحل مع الوقت٠.
كل مشكله تحمل لك هديه في يدها” هي مقوله مشهوره لريتشارد باخ. و بالنسبه لي هذه المقوله تعني انه اذا نظرنا إلي مشاكلنا كفرص نستغلها، فنحن بالتالي جميعا فائزون٠
فنحن بإمكاننا ان نشارك مجتمعين في بناء النظم، و لكن من الممكن ايضا ان نتسبب في هدم هذه النظم بصوره انفراديه، و لقد حان الوقت ان نعي بان اعمالنا الفرديه متداخله، حتي لو لم تبدو كذلك. و لذا فآنه من مسئوليه كل فرد منا ان يوازن اطماعه الشخصيه ابتداء من المنزل٠
و لقد حان الوقت ان نغير الطريقه التي نري بها انفسنا، علي الاقل من اجل اسباب البقاء، و من اجل ترك بعض خيرات الارض لابنائنا. لقد حان الوقت ان نتشارك٠
